It is a BIG Vintage!!
Twenty years ago when we first began wine tasting in "earnest" with Glenn Kelly as our guide, we discovered Five Vintners at a restaurant. The owner/winemaker Krisi Raymond did not have a tasting room but invited us to her home. We weren't able to go, but 20 years and 20 vintages later we finally made it. Due to confusion in time zones, we were more than fashionably late to the party but were welcomed with open arms and hugs. We enjoyed several vintages and met Krisi's daughter who is coming to NC to explore colleges and several of her friends. It was a delightful party and we stayed and helped bring in cushions before the "big" rain that was expected the next day.

David enjoyed talking to Krisi neighbor and bartender, John. He also kept pouring vintages!!
Every party has its "joker". This guy took the "Big Gulp" picture!
The promised rain did come the next day and Kriss moved the olive oil tasting to an inside venue. A friend of hers from Guatemala built this "barn" as a party venue for his children. It was amazing including indoor swings, an arcade, amazing tables, and a soon-to-be pool table built out of petrified wood!
Indoor swings and a slide from the arcade!
Deb couldn't resist swinging.
The Arcade
The table set for the olive oil tasting. It will become a pool table. Krisi's friends in the Olive Oil venture were passionate about Grove 45

We learned that in professional olive oil tastings, you are served in cobalt blue glasses to hide or distort the color of the oil, which has no bearing on the quality or taste of the oil. Similar to tasting wine, you cover, warm, and swirl the oil to bring out the aromas and then taste. David got the hang of it quickly!
It was a delightful event and we enjoyed our time with Krisi, her friends, family, and business partners! We told her she would have to have another event sooner than 20 years - we'd be in our 90s then!! So often we don't get to participate in winery events because we are a continent away. It was fun to be part of the celebrations!
