MONTEREY BAY AND PEBBLE BEACH and ARRIVING IN MORRO BAY

Pebble Beach provided many photo ops!!

Monterey Bay and Pebble Beach provided both highlights and "low-lights".  Our VRBO was less than stellar and we gave it a 3-star review.  The worst part was the only place to sit was 2 straight-back chairs, and the only place to put a laptop was right in front of the TV.  But we survived 2 nights there and actually had fun the second night when the garden had dried out from the rain and we could sit and have one of the raucous political discussions we are famous for!  (Oh, how nice it would have been to have Laurie and Sean, Brina and Floyd, or the Wassums join us!)

The Atlanta Aquarium has set a high bar for aquariums and the Monterey Bay Aquarium comes close.  We spent several hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it.  It included a great exhibit on Cannery Row and the over-fishing that shut it down.  Seeing the schools of sardines in the big tank, made it easy to see how easy it would be to scoop up too many sardines!

The shops on Cannery Row and the Wharf were waaaay too filled with bric a brac for me.  I'm sure there were better ones around, but uncharacteristically for me, I could not "sniff them out".

We decided to go to the other side of the island and ride the 17-mile scenic loop on Pebble Beach.  It was definitely worth the $11 entrance fee.  The scenery was gorgeous and while not golfers, we could definitely see the draw!

The famous Lone Pine

One of many golf courses

The ride down #1 to Morro Bay included so many "Scenic Vistas" that we soon learned that if we stopped at them all we would never get to Morro Bay!  We were particularly enamored with some of the lone houses out on the cliffs and wondered what it would be to live out there so far from groceries and "modern conveniences" - yet with all the tourists driving by taking pictures of your house, not really alone!!

After a late lunch in Cambria (where the pottery galleries were excellent, and the clam chowder memorable.  I may revisit them on the way back to SFO!), we drove into Morro Bay.  There is something about that huge rock that really draws you in. Since our VRBO wasn't quite ready yet, we walked around one of my favorite galleries and found a sculpture for Park's Peak.  We're still thinking about it, but Dave said yesterday, that we had spent an equal amount on wine, and since my agreement is my art budget equals his wine budget, I think the die is cast!! lol.  I noticed when we settled into our "retro" VRBO, we spread out our computers as far apart as we could after being crammed together in Monterey!! lol.

Dave set up in the kitchen..... while I am writing this the window on the other side of the room!!

About 6:45 pm. I told Dave it was time to go back down to the Rock.  The sunset was NOT disappointing!
