Deb and Dave meet Jo and David |
Sunday, after charging in the underground parking deck (it took 2 trips to find it!), we went to a juried art fair in a park in a neighborhood close to downtown Dallas. (Think the neighborhood around Freedom Park but with high rises!!) The show had great art and jewelry and we bought a few things: some jewelry for gifts and a few prints, nothing really notable. But we had a good time talking to several of the vendors and suggested to a few of them that they apply for Artisphere next year. I asked several artists if I could photograph their art so that I could talk to Abbie about the different techniques. We had a great time texting back and forth and I finally got an idea for her
real birthday present. Since her mother will probably have to work Mothers Day, she and I will go to Artisphere and get a "birthday art fix". If that doesn't work out, I'll take her into Asheville to the River District. In NC "art fixes" shouldn't be hard!! "Problem" solved!!

This artist is legally blind but still paints great pieces! |

Abbie and I talked about this technique of blowing ink and then adding details

Now it was time for the real reason I wanted to come to Dallas. More than 5 years ago, I randomly picked up partner on Words With Friends. We began tentively chatting and realized that we had much in common: same politics (this took some subtle conversations which finally was a relief to both of us. "Really, someone in Texas/NC who does not like Trump?!! YEA!!!), we have grandchildren the same ages, and like church and books, our husbands are both named David, and many other things! We became such great friends we shared Facebook profiles and we plotted together to get one of my Letters to the Editor in the Dallas Morning News! Two of her grandchildren were part of my Kind Kids project when I turned 70!
But, I had never met her! I told her when we would be in town (the date only changed THREE times!) and she planned a great evening of drinks, an art walk in a very unique mall, and an Italian dinner at Eataly. We recognized each other right away and fell into easy conversation, like we had been chatting over coffee for ever!
We chatted so much we forgot to take pictures of the sculptures, so I pulled a few off the website. There must have been about 20 scattered through the mall!

Remember the bru-ha-ha over Gumby at the old Coliseum? We found it! The same artist! |
The charging stations between Bentonville and Dallas were fairly widely spaced. We think it is because we came through Oklahoma and were on Indian Reservations. When we got into Dallas we still had about 15 % so we were fine, but decided to stop by a charging station first. We drove around and around Whole Foods and finally gave up trying to find the charging station, later to find it was in the underground parking deck BELOW us!
